The realisation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is the most ambitious project ever undertaken in European payment history. In practice, this means that an entirely new framework of EU-wide applicable payment schemes and standards has to be put in place to allow for the processing of electronic euro payments. In addition, the appropriate regulatory and legal environment for the implementation of SEPA  needs to be created. Last but not least, the active involvement of customers is required. This document provides a stepping stone to understanding all aspects of the SEPA process.
