PRIVACY POLICY
Introduction
The European Payments Council AISBL, a non-for-profit association, incorporated and registered in Belgium, whose headquarters is located at Avenue de Tervueren 12 (Second floor), B-1040 Brussels, Belgium ("EPC"), is the operator of the EPC Newsletter website at www.europeanpaymentscouncil.eu (the "System"). The EPC is committed to safeguarding the privacy of its System visitors and this Privacy Policy is intended to explain in general terms how the EPC protects the privacy of your personal data collected or maintained for the purposes of the System. Personal data means each item of information relating to an identified or identifiable individual.
What personal data EPC collects
The type of personal data the EPC typically collects for the purposes of the System includes: email address, name, and company name. The provision of your email address is required for you to receive the EPC Newsletter email. You will nevertheless be able to navigate the EPC Newsletter website without providing your email address. The provision of your name and company name is strictly voluntary. Non-provision of these personal data will not in any way affect your ability to receive the EPC Newsletter and navigate the EPC Newsletter website.
If you visit the System the EPC will also collect your computer’s individual identification number, known as an “IP address”, which is automatically logged by EPC web servers. It is used to note your interest in the System and for statistical purposes. It does not allow the EPC to identify you unless you choose to submit your personal details.
The EPC also collects information about your navigation around this System and keeps a record of emails and other communications that EPC send to you (if you choose to receive email updates).
The System makes use of “cookies” - small amounts of data which we send to your computer on the basis of the information that we have collected about your visit. They contain information allowing us to recognise you (if you have told us who you are) and to keep track of your preferences. Cookies are stored in your computer’s browser or on your hard disk and can then be retrieved by the site. The System uses two kinds of cookies: so-called “session” cookies, which are deleted from your computer when you leave the System and are used purely to help you to navigate around the System; and “persistent” cookies, which remain on your computer so that the System can recognise you when you return.
Most web browsers can be set to prevent you from receiving new cookies, notify you before accepting cookies or disable cookies altogether. Details about this can normally be found in the Help facility provided with your browser - or go to www.allaboutcookies.org for full information. If you disable cookies, you will not be able to receive personalised facilities.
What EPC does with your personal data
Any information the EPC collects about you will be used in accordance with the applicable data protection laws in Belgium.
The personal information the EPC collects will be used to:
- administer your subscription to EPC Newsletters;
- send you the EPC Newsletter email;
- help the EPC understand who is using the site and why. The EPC collects and analyses the data pertaining to user trends, information consumption and feedback in order to understand the various segments of our visitor audience. This enables the EPC to tailor and improve the targeted nature of our information and services, plan appropriate site enhancement and measure overall site effectiveness.
- to comply with EPC's legal obligations.
The EPC may disclose your personal data to service providers processing or storing information on our behalf, or where the EPC is required by law to disclose. The EPC will inform you if it intends to make any other disclosure of your personal data.
Security
You should be aware that the Internet, being an "open network", is not completely secure. If you choose to send any electronic communications to the EPC by means of this website or if you submit any content or information for publication on the website (whether by means of e-mail or through forms made available on the website), you do so at your own risk. The EPC cannot guarantee that such communications will not be intercepted or changed or that they will reach the intended recipient safely.
The EPC will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that this System is reasonably secure. However, the EPC cannot guarantee that any information displayed on the System has not been changed or modified through malicious attacks.
Hereby you are also advised that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time and you should therefore check it each time you visit this System.
Access to, Deletion or Correction of the Personal Data
You may have rights under data protection law to request information about the personal information the EPC holds about you, to request a copy of that information, to correct that information, or, in some circumstances, to object to EPC's processing of your information.
