SEPA Request-to-Pay Implementation Guidelines Version 1.0

These implementation guidelines (IGs) set out the rules for implementing the relevant ISO 20022 XML message standards based on version 1.0 of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) Request-to-Pay (SRTP) scheme rulebook, which takes effect on 15 June 2021.

These IGs cover SRTP related messages in the:

  • Payee to Payee’s RTP Service Provider space (in both directions);
  • Inter-RTP Service Provider space (in both directions);
  • Payer to Payer’s RTP Service Provider space (in both directions).

An overview of the SRTP functional messages based on the process steps and datasets as described in the rulebook and including the corresponding ISO 20022 XML message standards can be found in the annex to the IGs.

SEPA XML Schema Definitions (XSDs) related to the aforementioned IGs are also made available. (Note: XSD files can be opened via a text editor (e.g. Microsoft Notepad) or XML Schema editor).

Disclaimer: SEPA XSDs are not developed for ‘production’ purposes, they are to instantiate the business rules and restrictions contained in the implementation guidelines in a formal interchange format, sometimes referred to as Technical Validation Subsets (TVSs). Production instantiations should refer to the default ISO 20022 namespaces.

It should be noted that the aim is to publish by end-November 2021 a second version of the SRTP scheme rulebook and related IGs, which will support more elaborate functionalities.
