Results of the EPC Poll: “when no check-out at physical merchants’ will become a common practice”

As the was curious to know what professionals working in the payments industry think when it comes to the future of retail checkout it ran over the last two months a poll on forecasting when no check-out at physical merchants’ would become a common practice in Europe.

The question asked to all participants to the poll was the following: “by when in Europe it will be a common practice to no longer check-out at physical merchants’? (i.e. payments taking place in the background)”.

The results were as follows:

In 3 years (12%)
In 5 years (32%)
In 10 years (29%)
More than 10 years (26%)

To sum up, nearly one half of the participants to the poll say that no check-out at physical merchants will become a common practice by 5 years and some 55% think it will take 10 or more than 10 years:
