The European Payment Council (EPC) published today a brief public information paper titled “Understanding the cash cycle for banknotes: a high-level description of the generic model and some observations” which was created by its Cash Efficiency Working Group (CEWG), aiming to provide a high-level description of the cash cycle, as well as some observations on trends and tendencies, drivers for cash usage, and related challenges.

The high-level description is partly inspired by the information provided by the European Central Bank (ECB).  It must be noted that this paper addresses banknotes only and not the handling of coins.

Also, the newly published infographic shows a generic model of the cash cycle for banknotes.
