Following the 2024 change management cycle and the need expressed by the market to simplify the SEPA Request-to-Pay (SRTP) scheme adherence process and especially the homologation process, the European Payments Council (EPC) is launching on 1st October 2025 a new  simplified homologation process.

Trust and Security Framework Sets the Rules for Participants

As detailed in the Trust and Security Framework (TSF), Annex I of the SRTP rulebook, the EPC should ensure that all participants to the SRTP scheme have the required technical, operational, security and business continuity capabilities to exchange SRTP messages as described in the SRTP scheme rulebook, the SRTP Implementation Guidelines and the SRTP API Specifications. To achieve this, upon receipt of the adherence documents sent by a SRTP scheme applicant, the EPC will validate the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria, identify the applicant and determine whether an homologation is required and in this case, which homologation type is applicable.

In 2021, Sopra Steria Belgium was selected to play the role of independent SRTP scheme Homologation Body.

Applicants Using RTSPs Exempt from Homologation

The PSP applicants that are using a Referenced Technical Solution Provider (RTSP), i.e., an homologated technical solution provider, are not required to pass an homologation.

Three Annual Homologation Waves

Upon confirmation of the EPC, the applicants that must undergo an homologation should contact the Homologation Body and subscribe to an homologation wave.

There are three waves annually:

  • February - April
  • April - June
  • September - November

Applicants must subscribe at least one month before the start of the chosen wave.
Full details and guidelines are available on the
Homologation Body’s website.

EPC Recommends API Test Toolbox Before Going Live

To help the applicants implementing the SRTP scheme rulebook and the related API messages before going through the homologation process or going live, the EPC recommends performing some test with an API test toolbox. A list of SRTP API Test Toolbox Providers compliant with the SRTP scheme and supporting all the functionalities and options is available on our website.
