The ad hoc multi-stakeholder group for the update of the Mobile Contactless
Card Payments Interoperability Implementation Guidelines held its fourteenth and fifteenth meetings on 21 June and 27 August 2018 respectively.
At these meetings progress was made on the new white paper on non-NFC (Near Field Communication) mobile
card-based proximity payments (MCPPs), covering Quick Response-code (QR-code) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) – proximity technologies. Different MCPP use cases were agreed and some transaction and POI (Point of Interaction) characteristics for this type of payments were analysed. Furthermore, challenges and opportunities for MCPPs were identified and discussed in more detail.
