The European Payments Council (EPC) has launched a public consultation to explore the possible role of the EPC in the interoperability of payment solutions based on the SEPA Instant Credit Transfer (SCT Inst) scheme at the Point Of Interaction (POI).
Background
The EPC issued in the second quarter of 2025 a public consultation to explore the options for fostering the use of the SCT Inst scheme at the POI in the context of the growing number of Payment Service Providers (PSPs) adhering to the SCT Inst scheme as a result of the Instant Payments Regulation requirements.
The collected feedback and suggestions were assessed by the EPC and discussed at an EPC-organised workshop in November 2025. This resulted in further input on possible Change Requests to the SCT Inst scheme.
This workshop also led to the conclusion that aspects related to the interoperability of SCT Inst scheme-based payment solutions at the POI, and the possible related role of the EPC in this domain, need further reflection. It was agreed that a second public consultation and potentially a new workshop focusing on these aspects, would be needed.
About the consultation
Through this public consultation, the EPC wishes to collect feedback, proposed requirements, suggestions, and/or issues that relevant stakeholders may have when they address the interoperability of SCT Inst scheme-based payment solutions at the POI. This input will allow the EPC to gain a deeper understanding of the specific needs from each stakeholder concerned, and to determine whether the EPC should consider taking up any relevant role.
How to participate
Interested stakeholders are kindly invited to give their input through the response form EPC155-26 below, and submit it via email to [email protected] by 10 April 2026 18h, Brussels time.
Next steps
The EPC will provide a summary of the collected feedback to all contributors. Depending on the feedback received, the EPC will consider holding a dedicated workshop with the relevant stakeholder representatives to discuss whether the EPC should be further involved in the interoperability of SCT Inst scheme-based solutions at the POI, and the most effective way(s) for such EPC involvement.
