The European Payments Council (EPC) SEPA Request-to-Pay (SRTP) Application Programming Interface (API) specifications complete the documentation set for the SRTP scheme—including the Scheme Rulebook, Clarification Paper, and Implementation Guides (IGs)—and will formally take effect on 5 October 2025.
The specification covers:
- The usage of ISO20022 messages such as pain.013, pain.014, and pain.017
- Their associated datasets (DS02, DS05, DS08, DS16RTP, etc.) defined in the EPC SRTP Scheme Rulebook (version 4.0)
- The distinction between synchronous HTTP responses and asynchronous business callbacks
- The interpretation and retrieval of request statuses throughout their lifecycle
It is intended for developers, architects and system integrators involved in implementing or consuming SRTP flows. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the technical resource model and business status, to help implementers understand where and how end results are exposed: immediately, through a callback, or through explicit status updates.
